Washed…

Personal Project Working Project

In the summer of 1999 I was seven years old, and I made one of the biggest and most impactful decisions of my life…

I decided to get baptized.

I grew up in the church- we faithfully went to Sunday services, Bible studies, choir practices, and VBS (vacation Bible school) every summer! The summer of 1999 I went to a VBS where I made the firm decision that I want to be saved and l want to put Christ at the center of my life! I was pretty young when I made this decision, but I know that I was unwaivering in my decision. I also know that the Holy Spirit made no mistake in touching my heart that night at VBS. When I was still in my mother’s womb, our pastor prophecied over my life and I am still seeing that prophecy (along with other prophecies I have received throughout the years) manifest in my life today (Psalms 139:13-18). My journey with God began before I was even born, and my walk with Christ over the past 20 years has been one of grace and never ending love.

Check out this quick video where I detailed more about my experience of getting baptized on July 4,1999!!

Baptism is not the end all, be all…

Baptism is an opportunity to outwardly show the world that you have made the decision to believe in Jesus Christ and to show that you are committed to live life like he did. The same way that a couple uses a ceremonial wedding to show their love for each other, Christians can show their love and commitment to Christ through baptism.  Baptism is important. Jesus himself was baptized (Matthew 3:13-17), and if he is #GOALS then we should aspire to be baptized too!

However, baptism is not what saves you- JESUS SAVES! Believing in Jesus and that he is the only way is how you can gain salvation. Baptism is the symbolic cherry on top of the best sundae (relationship with Christ) you will ever experience!

When I got baptized, it did not mean that everything was all good and I can now frolic through the daisies with my Bible! If anything, when I took the step to outwardly show that I believe in Jesus, that is when the enemy had me in his cross hairs and was using me as target practice. I remember when I took a baptism class prior to getting baptized, one of ministers told the class, “now is when the challenging part begins.” He further explained that we will have to fight [by reading God’s word and staying in prayer] to keep God at the center of our lives. Relationships require work and effort- the same goes for pursuing a relationship with Christ.

My relationship with Christ has had its healthy moments where we talk all the time and we are close, and my relationship with Christ was sometimes non existent. My walk has had so many twists, turns, stops, rewinds, etc. Please don’t think that your girl has been living a righteous life for the past twenty years- let alone the past twenty days… A big misconception with being a Christian is that you are a “goody two shoes” who can’t do anything “fun”, or that you are a hypocrite if you mess up in any way. I am here to dispel these stereotypes and to show that the goal of a Christian life is to live within healthy and righteous boundaries (Romans 12:2) and to keep striving towards living a life like Christ did! Also, I want my personal walk with Christ to show the world how much I desperately need grace and forgiveness for all of the wrong that I do, and also show how much Jesus loves me in an undying way!

Every day I have to fight to pursue Christ (just as He pursues me) and live life like he did. Nevertheless, the decision I made 20 years ago was by far the greatest decision I ever made! I am so grateful to be where I am today in my life and in my Christian walk, and these past 20 years are just a testament to how much love Christ has for me.

I wanted to make this post to not only share with you my journey, but to also encourage you to take a look at your own journey and reflect on what the status of your relationship with Christ looks like!

I also wanted to share with you ANOTHER VIDEO I made in celebration of twenty years since I got baptized! Check it out and let me know what you think!! Also are you subscribed to my YouTube channel yet?! Let’s link!

  1. Sis! I can’t wait to make my children’s baptisms a memorable experience so they can one day cherish it like you do. Thank you for blessing us with this major piece of your spiritual journey!
